July Talk Ignite Midway Music Hall on the Touch X Tour

Canadian alt-rock favourites July Talk brought their electrifying stage presence to Midway Music Hall on March 14, delivering a gritty, high-energy performance as part of the band’s Touch X Tour, celebrating the 10th anniversary of their JUNO-winning album Touch.

From the moment the lights dropped, the crowd packed tightly against the stage, ready for the chaotic chemistry between co-vocalists Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay. Their contrasting vocal styles—Dreimanis’ gravel-soaked growl and Fay’s haunting, ethereal tone—remain one of the most distinctive pairings in Canadian rock.

The night kicked off with explosive fan favourites like “Picturing Love” and “Now I Know,” immediately sending the Edmonton audience into motion. Throughout the set, the band leaned heavily into tracks from Touch, including standout performances of “Push + Pull,” “Lola + Joseph,” and the title track itself, each delivered with the raw intensity that has become a signature of their live shows

Tension mounts !

On stage, July Talk thrive in the tension between chaos and precision. Fay’s theatrical movements and fearless crowd interaction contrasted perfectly with Dreimanis’ gritty swagger, creating a dynamic performance that kept the audience locked in from start to finish. Their chemistry felt less like a rehearsed performance and more like a constantly evolving conversation between two powerful personalities.

The show also highlighted some of the band’s newer material, giving fans a glimpse at the evolving sound July Talk has been exploring in recent years. These songs blended the band’s signature garage-rock grit with more atmospheric textures, hinting at the direction the group may take on future releases.

The Edmonton stop was part of a cross-Canada run celebrating the Touch anniversary, with upcoming shows continuing through Western Canada before heading east to cities including Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto later this month.

By the time the final notes rang out, it was clear that July Talk’s reputation as one of Canada’s most compelling live acts remains well deserved. The band’s ability to combine raw emotion, theatrical stage presence, and explosive rock energy turned the March 14 show into a night that Edmonton fans won’t soon forget.
